An increase of the dosage precribed by a doctor can lead to Darvocet Addiction. The physical consequences of addiction to this drug can be extremely dangerous, as taking high doses of a narcotic can result in breathing problems, extreme drowsiness, coma, and even death.

Darvocet produces both physical and psychological addiction, similar to other narcotics, making the treatment much the same.Recovering from a Darvocet addiction is possible. Proper treatment should begin in a medically supervised detox program and followed up with a residential addiction treatment program. is a narcotic pain reliever which is used in treating cough and pain.In contrast with other opiates which are taken via needle,oxycodone is an orally administerd opiate.Its common brand name isOxycontin and it belongs to schedule 2 substance,which means,the federal government regulates the use,sale,manufacture and distribution of Oxycodone.Because of its wide prescription many people are prone to be dependent on oxycodone which may lead to oxycodone addiction.

Continuous use of oxycodone leads to oxycodone addiction.The onset of withdrawal symptoms confirms oxycodone addiction.

In oxycodone addiction is a brutal development regardless of the vice. Addiction retreats offer unique treatment programs that are helping addicts recover.

Addiction Retreats

A new weapon in the battle against addiction has emerged recently. Instead of just working through a 12-step program, or being helped medically, a number of people who are having problems with addiction have chosen a different route. Addiction retreats have popped up in several areas of the United States, taking a new approach to helping those who have addictions to substances and other addictive behaviors.

One of the new addiction retreats that has started recently is the Essence Recovery Center, located in Asheville, North Carolina. This retreat offers an all-inclusive vacation-like feel, all while helping you to work through your problems with addiction. There are therapy sessions, which include individual "talk" therapy, as well as music and art therapy. They also offer massage therapy and acupuncture, which help to detoxify your body. Meditation, 12-step group programs, sauna and whirlpools, and even spa cuisine help to round out this holistic spa retreat. Week long programs and 28 day programs are available, and the spa is careful to point out that you should get your doctor's approval before starting this program, as it is not a medical program.

One of the addiction retreats located outside of the US is the Soukya Holistic Health Center in Bangalore, India. This retreat is one that combines many different health approaches, such as Ayurveda, homeopathy, naturopathy, acupuncture and Western (allopathic) medicine, in order to help people beat their addictions. With their approach including counseling, homeopathic remedies, relaxation techniques and more, they have earned the praise of people such as Dr. Deepak Chopra, a well-known doctor and philosopher from here in the US. Bangalore is known for having many English speaking residents and is a city that is often visited by US and British citizens. As with all programs, your doctor should be consulted before you start (or book your stay).

This new group of addiction retreats is sure to grow as more people discover the healing benefits of total body cleansing and relaxation. Whether you are in need of a long stay or just a short trip to rejuvenate your mind and spirit, these retreat centers offer more than just the usual massages and facials found at most other spas. They offer a new way of life and a new way of thinking, along with the luxury of a spa atmosphere.

Addiction is a scary thing and breaking it is a difficult task. Addiction retreats offer people the ability and time to break the addiction curse.

My New Site --> Tech Updates

Hydrocodone Drug Can Lead to Addiction

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_KHDVpwHoS0U/SpicT-VxzxI/AAAAAAAAAnA/jxdYx1QGxkY/s400/Rob-Hydrocodone.jpg" border="0" alt=" Hydrocodone"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5375218022232477458" />

Hydrocodone is a narcotic pain reliever. Hydrocodone when administered along with doses of Acetaminophen which is a less potent pain reliever increases the action of Hydrocodone in relieving severe pain. Hydrocodone Addiction:Since Hydrocodone is a narcotic pain reliever the person using Hydrocodone may become addicted to this Drug. So,in cases of Alcohol addicts and drug abusers this drug should be used with utmost care,only by the prescription of a genuine doctor. People with history of allergy to any Drugs should let the doctor know about it. It should also be noted that Hydrocodone in combination with Acetominophen should not be used for the patients who has liver cirrhosis.
Hydrocodone addiction has become responsible in nearly 30-40% of Americans. Since this Drug is widely prescribed it is very easy to acquire Hydrocodone. Hydrocodone addicts acquire this drug by forged prescriptions,stealing and doctor-shopping. Generally Addiction to Hydrocodone can take upto 3-4 weeks of continuous usage.

The researchers say that the approximate time when the pain killer abuse went main stream was at the end of 20th century.The abuse of narcotic painkiller Hydrocone was in the form of vicodin.Many celebrities in the US were linked to Vicodin abuse.Almost 130 million prescriptions were written in 2006 for Hydrocodone.Surprisingly it is the most commonly abuse pharmaceutical and its abuse has consistently been on the rise. Today the DEA
[Drug Enforcement Agency] is very strict about controlling the usage of this medicine. Combination products containing not more 15mg of Hydrocodone are only to be prescribed. Though there are number of combination products under many names which contain Hydrocodone,the most recognizable are Vicodin,Lorcet,Norco,Lortab.

Know More :Hydrocodone addiction treatment and withdrawal info
My New Site--> Technology

Marijuana: Addiction is characterized as compulsive

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 399px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_KHDVpwHoS0U/SpidAcoJFBI/AAAAAAAAAnI/D9nRC5sswZM/s400/marijuana-leaf.jpg" border="0" alt="Marijuana Addiction"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5375218786276807698" />

Marijuana addiction is a phenomenon experienced by more than 150,000 individuals each year who enter treatment for their proclaimed addiction to marijuana. Marijuana addiction is characterized as compulsive, often uncontrollable marijuana craving, seeking, and use, even when the individual knows that marijuana use is not in his best interest. Marijuana addiction could be defined as chronically making the firm decision not to use marijuana followed shortly by a relapse due to experiencing overwhelming compulsive urges to use marijuana despite the firm decision not to. Ease of access may be one reason. Another contributing cause is most likely the increased ease with which doctors prescribe Schedule II, III, and IV narcotics for pain.

In order to successfully manage pain, opioid drugs attach to what are known as opioid receptors in both the brain and the spinal cord. The pain does not desist but your perception of that pain changes and in some cases, depending upon the dosage and other physical factors, a feeling of euphoria may replace it. Other indications include drowsiness, constipation and a depressed respiratory system.

However, in the long-term, the use of opioids to block pain builds up a tolerance or a dependence upon the drug. Without the prescription drug, your body feels pain even more acutely and loses the ability to manage itself. Additionally, withdrawal symptomsappear when levels of the prescription opioid drop below the elevated tolerance level. Depending upon the individual circumstance, this dependence can develop over as few as two weeks or may take up to a month or more.

Addiction to pain medication can occur even when following a doctor's prescription to the letter and through no fault of the patient. This, however, makes addiction to pain killers and other prescription medications no less serious. Severe respiratory issues and fatal doses are still an issue, no matter how the problem began.

Meditox understands that the roads to addiction are many and makes no judgment. Rather, we go out of our way to help you travel the path to freedom from that addiction as quickly and simply as possible.

Nicotine Addiction

Smoking addiction is an uncontrollable dependence on the highly addictive nicotine stimulant present in tobacco products. Nicotine alters the levels of certain chemicals in the brain that causes smokers to experience pleasurable changes to mood and concentration. When a smoker stops smoking they crave the nicotine effects and can suffer withdrawal symptoms such as anxiety, depression and irritable.

How Nicotine Works

Nicotine causes chemical and biological changes in the brain. Although it is less dramatic than heroin or cocaine, the strength of the addiction is just as powerful. It is a “reinforcing” drug, which means that users desire the drug regardless of the damaging effects.The human body builds a tolerance to nicotine and the effect of the drug is reduced over time. As a result, regular smokers can inhale greater amounts of smoke and toxins without showing immediate effects (ie. coughing, nausea).Nicotine is considered addictive because it alters brain functioning and because people use it compulsively. Addiction to nicotine is not immediate – it may take weeks or months to develop.

Nicotine in the body

Nicotine enters the brain within 10 seconds after inhaling cigarette smoke.This causes several physiological reactions:
Acute increase in heart rate and blood pressure,Constriction of blood vessels causing a temperature drop in the hands and feet,Brain waves are altered and muscles relax.Nicotine is extremely poisonous if consumed in large amounts. For this reason, new smokers might experience coughing, dizziness and a dry, irritated throat. Other effects may include nausea, weakness, abdominal cramps, headache, coughing or gagging. These symptoms abate as the user develops a tolerance to nicotine.

Withdrawel Symptoms

Nicotine addiction is a physical dependency. Withdrawal symptoms can be severe and many smokers might not be able to quit on their first attempt because of these symptoms, and a lack of preparation to cope with withdrawal.
The most severe withdrawal symptoms occur within the first week although the craving for cigarettes can persist for months even years. The desire to smoke can be especially strong when a person is under stress although others crave cigarettes while socializing or when bored. The typical withdrawal symptoms are:
o headaches
o anxiety and irritability
o difficulty concentrating and sleeping
o hunger
o decreased heart rate and blood pressure
o craving for nicotine
Other side effects such as fatigue and coughing are indications that the body is in a state of repair and is cleaning out the poisons associated with smoking.
Your body uses food more slowly when you first stop smoking. You may eat more when you quit too, so there is a good chance you will gain weight. And, while the average weight gain is 5 pounds, not everyone gains weight when they quit smoking.

Methamphetamine Addiction

Methamphetamine is a stimulant drug chemically related to amphetamine but with stronger effects on the central nervous system. Street names for the drug include "speed," "meth," "crystal," and "crank."Methamphetamine is used in pill form, or in powdered form by snorting or injecting. Crystallized methamphetamine known as "ice," "crystal," or "glass," is a smokable and more powerful form of the drug.

A methamphetamine-induced "high" artificially boosts self-confidence, many users are overcome by a so-called "superman syndrome." In this state,methamphetamine abusers ignore their physical limitations and try to do things which they are normally incapable of performing. Meth is highly addictive because people often continue using the drug to avoid an inevitable crash that comes when the drugs' positive effects begin to wear off. Even first time users experience many of meth's negative effects.

Methamphetamine negative effects include:

* Hyperactivity
* Irritability
* Visual hallucinations
* Auditory hallucinations (hearing "voices")
* Suicidal tendencies
* Aggression
* Suspiciousness, severe paranoia
* Shortness of breath
* Increased blood pressure
* Cardiac arrhythmia
* Stroke
* Sweating
* Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
* Long periods of sleep ("crashing" for 24-48 hours or more)
* Prolonged sluggishness, severe depression
* Weight loss, malnutrition, anorexia
* Itching (illusion that bugs are crawling on the skin)
* Welts on the skin
* Involuntary body movements
* Paranoid delusions

Severe amphetamine induced depression and/or psychosis
Methamphetamine stimulates the central nervous system, causing chemical reactions in the brain and tricking the body into believing it has unlimited energy supplies and draining energy reserves needed in other parts of the body. This is why meth addicts tend to stay awake for long periods of time and then eventually crash, feeling tired, depressed and much worse than they did before they took the drug. Chemical imbalances in the brain and sleep deprivation commonly associated with continued meth use result in hallucinations, extreme paranoia and often bizarre, violent behavior.

Chemical Dependency

Chemical Dependency

Alcohol and drug addictions are progressive diseases. In most people, addictions begin slowly and grow until the victim's life becomes progressively unmanageable. As repeated efforts to gain control over the addiction fail, life for the chemically dependent person begins to fall apart.

Alcoholism and drug abuse can shatter lives. Consequences are often reflected in the addicted individual's family life, health, spiritual happiness, social life, school or work relationships and legal matters. In spite of these problems, the addicted person continues to use alcohol or drugs. Repeated efforts to quit or cut down invariably collapse in failure.

Persons with a chemical addiction can stop using alcohol or drugs -- for a while. But most need professional help to stop for life. The individual who quits without professional help is usually overcome by an unbearable desire to resume alcohol or drug use.

For some individuals, treatment in a sheltered environment, safely away from daily stress and pressure, is often needed for recovery. The IIAR's Inpatient Treatment Program offers the structure and safety that is necessary to rebuild a life.

Others can receive help without the interruption of Inpatient Treatment. They are able to enter recovery through the help of an Outpatient Treatment Program. This type of program does not require individuals to take time off from work, leave their families or enter a hospital as an inpatient.

Gambling Addiction

Gambling Addiction

Like all <font color"blue">addictions, <font color"blue">Gambling or risk taking involves escaping from reality. It is not just the actual risk, but the whole panoply of events leading up to taking the risk and the fantasy which surrounds it. The process of <font color"blue">addiction and the inherent <font color"blue">Denial processes prevent the sufferer from seeing the reality of what is happening. The belief that the next risk will be the one which will put everything right, the delusory sense of certainty about the outcome combine to convince the person that just one more risk is essential.

<font color"blue">How do I know if I have it?

The consequences of compulsive gambling can be catastrophic. Individuals addicted to cocaine will do almost anything to get the drug. It has penetrated all levels of our society infecting the rich, poor, and everyone in between. Family members connected to individuals with a
cocaine addiction live in chaos and confusion because they do not understand the underlying mechanics of cocaine addiction.

Cocaine addiction symptoms can be divided into short term and long term cocaine addiction symptoms. Cocaine addiction symptoms can be experienced after as little as one dose as the body craves the pleasurable feelings created by cocaine's first effect on the brain. In fact, cocaine addiction symptoms deliver the double threat of both mind and body associating cocaine use with pleasure and alertness which can lead to an immediate increase use of cocaine. In addition to increased usage, other short-term cocaine addiction symptoms include a decreased need for sleep and food, constricted blood vessels, dilated pupils, fever and increased heart rate.

As cocaine use increases, even short term cocaine addiction symptoms become serious very quickly. Cocaine's effect on the body is unpredictable from one use to the next and the risk of sudden death from heart attack, seizures and respiratory arrest is possible. Other cocaine addiction symptoms that are likely to be experienced early in usage include:

1. Unusual, possibly violent behavior
2. Muscle spasms
3. Paranoia
4. Restlessness
5. Irritability

These cocaine addiction symptoms increase over the long term. Cocaine is highly addictive whether snorted, injected or smoked in crack form. Cocaine users develop a tolerance to the drug and find they need to use more to produce the same effect as that first hit or line. Cocaine use easily becomes compulsive as instant gratification is continuously sought and cocaine triggers the brain's pleasure center. The increasingly large amounts of cocaine taken can lead to increasing irritability, restlessness, paranoia as the personality disintegrates and is replaced by an increasing obsession with obtaining and using cocaine. In some users paranoid psychosis can develop when a grip on reality is lost and the user may begin to hallucinate. In extreme cocaine addiction symptoms this psychosis can become permanent.

The withdrawal symptoms of cocaine are:

emotional.There are no physical withdrawal symptoms from cocaine, which is why people sometimes trick themselves into thinking they aren't addicted to it. "I'm not physically addicted to cocaine." But there's no physical addiction and non-physical addiction – there's just addiction. All addiction occurs in the brain.

Even though there are no physical withdrawal symptoms, cocaine still satisfies the criteria of addiction. People have difficulty controlling how much they use, and they continue to use even though it has negative consequences to their life.

The emotional withdrawal symptoms of cocaine are:

* Tiredness
* Depression>
* Anxiety
* >Moodiness

Alcohol Addiction

Alcohol Addiction - What is alcoholism?:

Alcohol addiction is simply defined as a compulsive need for an intoxicating liquid that is obtained from fermented grain or fruit. These liquids include beer, wine, and other hard liquors.

Alcoholismis present when a person craves alcohol and cannot limit or contain his or her drinking. If someone experiences withdrawal symptoms such as nausea, sweating, shakiness, or anxiety when alcohol consumption has ceased, or if there is a need to drink greater amounts of alcohol in order to feel a high, that person is most likely alcoholic.

Some may think that it’s just a matter of having the will to stop drinking, but alcoholism is more complicated than that. An alcoholic’s craving for alcohol is so great that it suppresses their ability to stop drinking. The majority of alcoholics need assistance to stop drinking. With treatment and support from family and friends, many have been able to stop drinking and rebuild their lives. It is a sad fact however that there are still some who are unable to stop in spite of these aids.

Alcohol Addiction What are the causes:

Alcoholism can lead people into serious trouble, and can be physically and mentally destructive. Currently
alcohol
use is involved in half of all crimes, murders, accidental deaths, and suicides. There are also many health problems associated with alcohol use such as brain damage, cancer,
heart disease
, and diseases of the liver. Alcoholics who do not stop drinking reduce life expectancy by 10 to 15 years.

1.Too much alcohol can destroy brain cells, possibly leading to brain damage.
2.Alcohol greatly disturbs the structure and function of the central nervous system, hindering the ability to retrieve, consolidate, and process information.
3. Moderate consumption of alcohol can affect cognitive abilities while large amounts interfere with the oxygen supply of the brain causing a blackout when totally drunk.
4.Alcohol addiction may also inflame the mouth, esophagus, and stomach, and could cause cancer in these areas, especially in drinkers who also smoke.
5.Splurge drinking may produce irregular heartbeats, and abusers experience a higher risk of high-blood pressure, heart attacks, and other heart damage.
6.Alcohol also can harm vision, damage sexual function, slow circulation, be the grounds for malnutrition, and water retention.
7.It can also lead to skin and pancreatic disorders, weaken the bones and muscles, thus, decreasing immunity

Alcohol Addiction - What to do with Alcoholism:

* Have a desire to stop the alcohol addiction. You must have a serious desire to stop from being an
alcoholic.
* Have the initiative to identify the cause of your being alcoholic. Knowing the cause of one problem is an important part to its solution. If being alcoholic
is due to some traumatic experiences, you must let go and be delivered from it. Forgiveness is a good thing to do. Seek counseling to aid in healing.
* Make the decision to get help. Recognizing the need for help is one important thing to do. There are a lot of alcohol rehabilitation centers that could give you assistance for your treatment. You can also get different kinds of help from your family, friends, and above all from God.

Saxual Addiction Symptoms

While there is no official diagnosis for sex addiction, clinicians and researchers have attempted to define the disorder using criteria based on chemical dependency literature. They include:

* Frequently engaging in more sex and with more partners than intended.
* Being preoccupied with or persistently craving sex; wanting to cut down and unsuccessfully attempting to limit sexual activity.
* Thinking of sex to the detriment of other activities or continually engaging in excessive sexual practices despite a desire to stop.
* Spending considerable time in activities related to sex, such as cruising for partners or spending hours online visiting pornographic Web sites.
* Neglecting obligations such as work, school or family in pursuit of sex.
* Continually engaging in the sexual behavior despite negative consequences, such as broken relationships or potential health risks.
* Escalating scope or frequency of sexual activity to achieve the desired effect, such as more frequent visits to prostitutes or more sex partners.
* Feeling irritable when unable to engage in the desired behavior.

You may have a sex addiction problem if you identify with three or more of the above criteria. It is a "downer" or depressant that affects the brain's pleasure systems and interferes with the brain's ability to perceive pain.

What are its short-term effects?

The short-term effects of heroin abuse appear soon after a single dose and disappear in a few hours.After an injection of heroin, the user reports feeling a surge of euphoria ("rush") accompanied by a warm flushing of the skin, a dry mouth, and heavy extremities. Following this initial euphoria, the user goes "on the nod," an alternately wakeful and drowsy state. Mental functioning becomes clouded due to the depression of the central nervous system. Other effects included slowed and slurred speech, slow gait, constricted pupils, droopy eyelids, impaired night vision, vomiting, constipation.

What are its long-term effects?

Long-term effects of heroin appear after repeated use for some period of time.Chronic users may develop collapsed veins, infection of the heart lining and valves, abscesses, cellulites, and liver disease. Pulmonary complications, including various types of pneumonia, may result from the poor health condition of the abuser, as well as from heroin's depressing effects on respiration.In addition to the effects of the drug itself, street heroin may have additives that do not really dissolve and result in clogging the blood vessels that lead to the lungs, liver, kidneys, or brain. This can cause infection or even death of small patches of cells in vital organs. With regular heroin use, tolerance develops. This means the abuser must use more heroin to achieve the same intensity or effect.

As higher doses are used over time, physical dependence and addiction develop. With physical dependence, the body has adapted to the presence of the drug and withdrawal symptoms may occur if use is reduced or stopped. Withdrawal, which in regular abusers may occur as early as a few hours after the last administration, produces drug craving, restlessness, muscle and bone pain, insomnia, diarrhea and vomiting, cold flashes with goose bumps ("cold turkey"), kicking movements ("kicking the habit"), and other symptoms. Major withdrawal symptoms peak between 48 and 72 hours after the last does and subside after about a week. This condition is not only manifested by the abnormal intake of food, but the intake and craving for foods that are, in themselves, harmful to the individual. While society and the medical profession have readily understood alcoholism and drug abuse, it is only in recent years that there is an equal acceptance of the fact that persons may be addicted to food in the same way. When any substance is taken into the body regardless of its potential for harm or in excess of need, that substance is said to be abused. Individuals who abuse substances in such a way are addicts; these persons become physiologically and mentally dependent upon certain substances, in this case food.

DRUG ADDICTION

Drug addiction is the obsessive dependence on a legal or illegal drug. Drugs can include prescription medications, illegal drugs, and alcohol. While an addict may use more than one drug, he usually has a “drug of choice” -- his strongest addiction to break.

An addict can be dependent emotionally, psychologically, and/or physically, depending on the drugs used. His intense cravings drive him to resort to any means of obtaining the drug. Satisfying his cravings becomes the addict’s utmost priority -- even at the cost of losing all that was once important: job, home, friends, and family.

ADDICTION

The term "Addiction" is used in many contexts to describe an obsession, compulsion, or excessive physical dependence, such as: drug addiction, alcoholism, compulsive overeating, problem gambling, <a rel="nofollow"href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_addiction">computer addiction, etc.

In medical terminology, Addiction is a state in which the body relies on a substance for normal functioning and develops physical dependence, as in drug addiction. When the drug or substance on which someone is dependent is suddenly removed, it will cause withdrawal, a characteristic set of signs and symptoms. Addiction is generally associated with increased drug tolerance. In physiological dependence, addiction is not necessarily associated with substance abuse since this form of addiction can result from using medication as prescribed by a doctor.

However, common usage of the term addiction has spread to include psychological dependence. In this context, the term is used in drug addiction and substance abuse problems, but also refers to behaviours that are not generally recognised by the medical community as problems of
Addiction, such as compulsive overeating.

The term Addiction is also sometimes applied to compulsions that are not substance-related, such as >problem gamblingcomputer addiction. In these kinds of common usuages, the term addiction is used to describe a recurring compulsion by an individual to engage in some specific activity, despite harmful consequences to the individual's health, mental state or social life.
